CF Week nicknames

CF Week is an annual event in June when people spread awareness of cystic fibrosis (or CF). Cystic fibrosis is a genetic condition that causes the body to create thick, sticky mucus that clogs the lungs and digestive system. This can lead to chronic respiratory conditions, difficulty in absorbing nutrients from food and drink, and susceptibility to infections.

My friend Charlie Merriman aka Chazingdra has been done an amazing job spreading awareness of CF through his own comedy work and through the medium of Pokémon and this past week, alongside CannedWolfMeat, has raised money for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust with a dedicated Pokémon event. People have been shiny hunting yellow Pokémon (yellow is the official colour of CF), used yellow Pokémon in their in-game teams and in VGC, and offered plenty of support in other ways.

And now it’s my turn. As a lover of nicknames, I thought I’d make a list of CF-related nicknames you could use, whether it’s for a CF-themed team or just in general.

Nicknames

(Note: any yellow Pokémon can fit for any nickname since yellow is the offical theme colour)

• CFTR - any long/serpent-like Pokémon (e.g. Onix/Steelix, Serperior, Dragonair, Seviper, Gyarados etc.)
• Cilia - Mamoswine, Weedle (because it’s a hairy bug!), Greavard, Grimmsnarl
• Enzyme - Toxicroak, Reuniclus, Deoxys, Zygarde
• Lung - Exploud
• Pancreas - Swalot
• Mucus - Goomy (the official #CFWeek Pokémon event mascot), Muk, Swalot, Gastrodon, Hydrapple, Ditto
• Creon - same as enzyme
• F508del - same as Enzyme; Mewtwo
• MecniumIleus - same as Mucus
• Chestikov (a play on “chesty cough”) - the Koffing line
• Sweat Test - Bounsweet (apparently it sweats and the sweat is sweet!), Umbreon (its sweat is poisonous which it lets out when it’s angry or stressed), Bonsly (its sweat is salty), Meditite (it drops sweat as an item in Pokémon SV), Falinks (same), Makuhita (same again)
• Alyftrek/Kaftrio/Trikafta/Kalydeco/Orkambi/Symkevi - any spherical/capsule/caplet-shaped Pokémon: Voltorb line, Togepi, Spheal, Jigglypuff, Marill, Munna, Rowlett, Lechonk, Tatsugiri, Bronzor, Koffing, Luvdisc, Golem
• Saline - any Water-type
